This piece uses the Platinum Izumo Ironwood fountain pen as its foundation, combined with the handcrafted urushi lacquer techniques of Taiwanese lacquer artisan Kun-Yang, presenting an exceptional example of contemporary artisan craftsmanship.

The blue-green base tone resembles an aged pond in early autumn—its waters no longer crystal bright, but softened into a misty, serene green, as if the entire season has slowly settled to the bottom.

Strokes of orange-red are scattered across the surface, evoking maple leaves and withered lotus petals drifting on the water—sometimes clustering together, sometimes stretched into fragments by gentle ripples, forming an arrangement that is spontaneous yet rhythmic.

Delicate gold leaf glimmers like afternoon sunlight fractured by small waves into countless particles of light, floating between water and shadows, lending subtle warmth and vitality to the tranquil autumn landscape.

The touches of white urushi resemble thin layers of morning or evening mist resting lightly on the pond, softening the edges of the colors and creating a harmonious balance between coolness and warmth.

It captures that fleeting transition between seasons—

“Autumn has not fully passed, and winter has yet to arrive.”

Leaves have turned red, the pond has cooled, yet life has not completely faded.
