Pelikan Toledo Snow White Silver Eagle – Limited Edition Fountain Pen | 18K Gold Nib
Made in Germany
A Masterpiece of Spanish-Inspired Craftsmanship
The intricate artistry behind the Toledo series traces its roots back thousands of years, to the ancient technique of damascening. This process involves engraving detailed patterns into the surface of steel or iron, overlaying them with delicate gold leaf, and hammering the metal so the gold settles into the engraved lines.
The piece is then heated to approximately 800°C. While the base metal darkens through oxidation, the pure gold gleams through the contrast—creating a dramatic and enduring visual. This technique was brought to Spain by the Moors and perfected over centuries in the famed town of Toledo.
In 1931, Pelikan adopted this craft for the Toledo series fountain pens, achieving such acclaim that the design has remained unchanged ever since.
Today, each Toledo Silver Eagle barrel is crafted from a solid piece of sterling silver and meticulously engraved by hand. A layer of platinum is applied over the silver, giving it a refined snowy-white finish—hence the name Snow White Silver Eagle.
Every Toledo pen is hand-engraved in Germany, making each piece one of a kind. The hand-etched feathers of the Pelikan motif are rich with texture, capturing the life and motion of the design. The cap, grip section, and piston knob are made of deep red high-grade resin, completing this rare and regal instrument.
