☆ Japan Platinum Izumo “Tiger in Bamboo Forest” Takamakie Fountain Pen – 18K Gold Nib
In 2017, Platinum introduced the exceptional Izumo “Tiger in Bamboo Forest” fountain pen, a true masterpiece of Japanese craftsmanship.
The design draws inspiration from a 17th-century hanging scroll painting by the Japanese artist Kano Tanyu, depicting majestic tigers wandering among bamboo groves. In Japanese culture, the tiger—one of the Four Symbols originating from Chinese mythology—is revered as a powerful and mystical guardian.
This Izumo fountain pen is created using the Takamakie (high maki-e) technique. Multiple layers of charcoal powder are applied to the hard rubber (ebonite) body, giving the tigers a striking three-dimensional presence. Over time and with use, the patterns develop a richer luster, making each pen even more captivating.
